Newport Beach Film Festival Film Showcases & Galas April 25-May 2


Having grown up in Orange County, I’m proud to say one of the most dynamic and well-run film festivals in Southern California and OC’s largest one is the Newport Beach Film Festival and this year’s 14th annual festival runs Thursday, April 25 – May 2. They screen an enormous amount of films in a week in many categories: Features, Documentaries, Action Sports, Shorts, Art, Architecture and Design (AA+D), Environmental, Music, Family, Youth and Collegiate. This year, they’re also partnering with the OC Music Awards to feature music videos. My favorite of the festival are the Showcases spotlighting films from different regions of the world, followed by a gala parties in the beautiful outdoor courtyard of Fashion Island in Newport Beach. These after-parties offer hordoevers  from select area restaurants, drinks by Absolut and Stella Artois, and live entertainment and are well worth the additional ticket (Discount tickets for some of them available below!). ColCoa French Film Festival April 15-22

The 17th Annual City of Lights, City of Angels (COL•COA) film festival runs from Monday, April 15 to Monday, April 22 at The Directors Guild Theater in Hollywood. The festival was created in 1996  and is committed to promoting new French films in the U.S. and to showcasing the vitality and the diversity of French cinema in Hollywood: comedies and dramas, box office hits in France and novelties, first features and films from established writer-directors, art house movies as well as mainstream films. Paris Combo US Tour with New Album


By the time a friend introduced me to the wonderful eclectic music of Paris Combo, the group was already well into a long hiatus after their 2004 album Motifs. Their music is a blend of French cabaret, rumba, flamenco, Gypsy swing, cool jazz, African, Latin and Middle Eastern styles that defies easy categorization. My long wait to hear them live is over! They will be touring the US in April and May, playing new songs from their 5th studio recording, simply titled “5”. Here are their tour dates/cities:
